Simon Britten

I know this community, I’m good at governance, and I’m pleased and proud to be selected by The People’s Choice to campaign for Council in Papanui Ward.

I want to be the next Councillor for Papanui because I love the area and the city, and we need leadership that is proven, collaborative, and committed to a positive vision for our city and region.

I’m in my second term as deputy chair of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board and am in my fifteenth year working in the community sector. I’m a member of the Institute of Directors and co-chaired a Local Government NZ advisory committee. I’ve been a trustee with the Papanui Baptist Freedom Trust and Casebrook Intermediate School, and have chaired the board of a national charity.

Previously I had an extensive career in the international technology sector, earning a tertiary qualification in engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration along the way.

At Ōtautahi’s youth one-stop shop I’m responsible for leading staff in a youth employment programme, and in my spare time, I run community news site Think Papanui, increasing community connectedness and raising awareness of, and engagement with, the activities of local government.

Let’s involve community more in decision-making, enhance our transport system, and provide support and opportunities for young people. We also need to protect our strategic assets, and can do more to improve our environment and respond to climate change.

The Council table is where I can best utilise my leadership skills and governance experience. I’m capable and proven, and look forward to being the next Councillor for Papanui.
